Peter the Tailor

Cotter Bridge illuminated in blue and gold lights

Peter was born and raised in Germany and experienced World War II firsthand.  His father (who lost everything and had to rebuild twice), insisted that each of his 6 children learn a trade before they could begin their advanced studies.  His father had watched many white collar workers lose their jobs and starve without their livelihood.  He wanted his children to have their trade skills to weather any storm.

Peter chose the textile business and trained as a tailor.  After studying in Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, he consulted in the textile industry and traveled around the globe.  He discovered a love for our area through an opportunity suggested by Arkansas Governor Winthrop Rockefeller. Shortly thereafter, White River Industries was born.  His tailor background was instrumental in starting White River Industries (a textile business) in Cotter.

Tonight's bridge lighting is the Cotter Warrior's color scheme to honor Peter's discovery of our town.
